Christine Sioui Wawanoloath:  Abénakise-Wendat

Expérience de travail:

  • Photographe d'imprimerie; technicienne en chambre noire.

  • Journaliste (section culturelle) photographe et graphiste pour des publications autochtones à Ottawa, Frobisher Bay et Val d'Or.

  • Directrice des programmes durant six ans pour le Centre d'amitié autochtone de Val d'Or.      

  • Coordonnatrice du dossier de la promotion de la non-violence de Femmes autochtones du Québec de 1992 à 2002.

  • De 2002 à 2008, agente en communications à Terres en vues, société de diffusion culturelle autochtone.

  • Chargée de projets pour le Musée des Abénakis, 2010-2015.

Expériences artistiques majeures :

  • Illustratrice professionnelle depuis 1973 (affiches, livres, monographies, symboles corporatifs, bandes dessinées, images d’expositions, cartes de souhaits, calendriers,  images pour films d’animation).

  • Créatrice de sculptures, de marionnettes, de masques à partir de plusieurs matériaux et d’objets décoratifs, de bijoux en argent, en ivoire et autres matériaux.

  • Artiste invitée par Terres en vues dans le cadre des célébrations de la Grande Paix de Montréal (2001) pour l’installation de huit mâts totémiques au Jardin Botanique de Montréal.

  • Artiste invitée dans le cadre des Entretiens Jacques Cartier, Lyon, France (2002) pour l’installation d’un mât totémique et une pièce montée sur un arbre vivant.

  • Gagnante du concours national (Affaires Indiennes et du Nord du Canada) d’une affiche (Hommage sur des perles de maïs) en 2000.

  • Créatrice d’un jeu d’échecs sculpté sur le thème du héros mythique Kloskombe de la tradition des Wabanakis (gagnante du deuxième prix).

  • Créatrice du design de deux mosaïcultures pour les Mosaïcultures internationales, Montréal, 2013. ‘Naître avec le Soleil’ a gagné le Grand Prix d’Honneur des Prix du volet national.

  • Auteure, depuis 1976 ; sept contes publiés , trois pièces de théâtre dont deux ont été produites, deux textes pour des spectacles  musicaux, poèmes, scénarios pour la télévision, de nombreux articles et textes de présentation sur la culture autochtone et un guide de communication.

  • Expositions de tableaux et sculptures de groupe et en solo.

Work experience:

  • Printing photographer; technician in the darkroom.

  • Reporter (cultural section) photographer and graphic designer for Aboriginal publications in Ottawa, Frobisher Bay and Val d'Or.

  • Program Director for six years for the Native Friendship Centre of Val d'Or.

  • Coordinator of promotion to non-violence issue of Quebec Native Women 1992-2002.

  • From 2002-2008 communication officer at Lands In Sights, Aboriginal cultural diffusion society.

  • Project Manager for the Musée des Abénakis, 2010-2015.

  • Storyteller (tales and legends).

  • Research, scriptwriting.

Major artistic experiences:

  • Professional illustrator since 1973 (posters, books, monographs, corporate symbols, cartoons, exhibitions images, greeting cards, calendars, images for animated films).

  • Creator of sculptures, puppets, masks from various materials and decorative items, silver jewelery, ivory and other materials.

  • Artist invited by Land Insights as part of the celebrations of the Great Peace of Montreal (2001) for the installation of eight totem poles at the Montreal Botanical Garden.

  • Guest Artist under “Entretiens Jacques Cartier”, Lyon, France (2002) for the installation of a totem pole and a piece mounted on a living tree.

  • Winner of National Contest (Indian and Northern Affairs Canada) poster (Tribute on maize beads) in 2000.

  • Creator of a chess set carved on the theme of mythical hero Kloskombe, a tradition of the Wabanakis (second prize winner).

  • Creative design of two mosaicultures for international Mosaïcultures, Montreal, 2013. 'To be born with the Sun” won the Grand Honorary Award of the National Awards.

  •  Author, since 1976; published seven stories, three plays, two of which were produced, two texts for musical performances, poems, scripts for television, numerous articles and texts about Aboriginal culture and a communication guide.

  • Exhibitions of paintings and sculptures in group and in solo.
